Private Tailor Made Tour
Hiking the Mahoma Trail on the lower slopes of the Rwenzori Mountains is an incredible way to explore the heavenly biodiversity of the ethereal mountains without climbing to the peaks.
The 28-kilometer trekking trail explores a cross-section of the natural heritage of the Mountains of the Moon, an excellent choice for hiking starters which leads to the peaks of Ibanda and Kilembe. This trail ends at Lake Mahoma, where it snakes into the longer Central Circuit trail to the park gate.
Although they are not as spectacular as the Himalayas, Andes, or the Alps, there is something ethereal about the Rwenzori Mountains that enthralls trekkers. Its perpetual mists, the wild plants that seem better suited for some paranormal science fantasy world. Is it the rime-encrusted glaciers less than 50 kilometers from the equator, its long and fabled history? Or is it the difficulty to access the mountains and the historical insecurity around them that makes the Rwenzoris the world's greatest treasures?
For Rift & Tide Africa, this journey works as a polished starting point for private travellers and travel advisors who want a clear, premium East Africa itinerary. Final routing, lodge level, rooming, permits and special interests can be refined at quotation stage so the trip fits the traveller's dates, comfort level and pace.

Your adventure takes you westward! Your private safari driver will whisk you away from Entebbe, through the vibrant Ugandan countryside towards Kasese Town. Nestled at the foot of the mighty Rwenzori Mountains, near the DR-Congo border, Kasese will be your base camp for the thrilling trek ahead.
Upon arrival at your lodge, let your guide assist you with your trekking gear and packing. As you settle in, take some time to acclimate to the altitude change. Breathe in the crisp mountain air and feel the excitement build - your journey into the Rwenzoris is about to begin!
You will stay at: Equator Snow Lodge / Mihunga Lodge
Your Rwenzori trek begins here! Immerse yourself in the vibrant rainforest as you follow the Mahoma trail along the Kyambogho Ridge. The Mubuku Valley unfolds below, a patchwork of green. Listen for the playful calls of Colobus and Blue Monkeys, perhaps even the rustling of a chimpanzee passing through. Keep a sharp eye out for signs of the elusive forest elephant - you might just catch a glimpse of these gentle giants.
This trail is a birder's paradise! Scan the branches for the dazzling Rwenzori Turaco, and watch the forest floor for the camouflaged Three-Horned Chameleon.
